Chapter One

Chapter One

By Rose Bence

My bare feet softly tread the concrete

My too-long jeans scrape along

As the moon follows behind

Grinning as a Cheshire does

It laughs silently behind

While I continue on

Icy needles pierce my feet

As the silent city slumbers on

The shadows twist and sway

As phantoms whisper, plot

As concrete turns to snow

Tress begin to talk

Shadows snake the snow

Crunching, snapping twigs

Howls ride upon the wind

My heart flutters within

A ring of steel is heard

A blade of light in hand

A grinning Cheshire cat

And so the tale began
